Is Baby Buddha Better than Spectra?

The BabyBuddha pump has its advantages over the Spectra. The biggest one being how portable and discreet it is, which is nice for pumping in public.

Suction strength is another big difference between Spectra and BabyBuddha.

If you are looking for a pump with a strong suction capable of emptying your breasts fast, the BabyBuddha is the clear front runner.

However, some women prefer a more gentle suction and in that case, the Spectra would be a better option for you than the BabyBuddha.

How to Hack the BabyBuddha with Spectra:

  1. Remove the white connectors on the ends of the BabyBuddha tubing.
  2. Connect the tubing to the Spectra Backflow Protectors.

How Strong is the Baby Buddha Pump?

Although the BabyBuddha breast pump is small, it is MIGHTY. With a max suction power of 320 mmhg you will feel a huge difference between the suction strength of the BabyBuddha compared to a Spectra S2 with an mmhg of 300.

The first time you use the BabyBuddha, level 1 will feel like the strongest level on a Spectra or most any other pump.

Some moms may find the BabyBuddha’s suction much too strong and even somewhat painful. On the other hand, women who experience a hard time achieving a let-down while pumping, or feeling fully empty tend to appreciate the strong suction.

Is the Baby Buddha Pump Loud?

It seems as though the answer to this question is subjective. I have seen plenty of reviews claiming that the BabyBuddha is absurdly loud. However, as a someone who used the BabyBuddha pretty regularly, I had the opposite experience.

In fact, I would even opt to use my BabyBuddha for pumping at night because of how quiet I found it to be.

Is the Baby Buddha Hospital Grade?

The BabyBuddha pump is hospital grade and a closed-system. This closed system means that no breast milk will ever come in contact with the pump’s motor.

Not only is the pump hospital grade, but it is also FDA approved.

Is Baby Buddha Breast Pump a Closed System?

Yes, the BabyBuddha has a built-in back flow protector. Meaning, no milk will come in contact with the pump’s motor.

If milk happens to enter the tubing, you should proceed as follows:

  1. Remove all tubing from machine.
  2. Wipe off any milk on the motor with a paper towel.
  3. Allow the pump to run for 20-30 seconds to remove any milk that remains inside the pump.
  4. Take special care to clean the vacuum ports.

To avoid milk entering the tubing, remain upright while you pump.

What Settings Should I Use for Baby Buddha?

Pump settings are a personal thing that take trial and error to discover and fine tune. Even so, it’s nice to have a starting point to work off of.

Which is why you can try these BabyBuddha pump settings and then adapt them to your preferences:

  • Start on Expression Mode 1 to trigger a let-down.
  • Once milk is flowing, switch to Stimulation Mode level 1 or 2.

My BabyBuddha Review (as a full time exclusive pumper)

I exclusively pumped for almost for a full year with my first daughter and in those 12 months I had also tried many different breast pumps.

After joining a few exclusive pumping mom groups online, I quickly realized everyone was talking about this BabyBuddha breast pump.

They were raving really.

Without much delay, I threw that little pump into my virtual cart and waited a couple of days for it to arrive at my front door.

My Likes:

  • The BabyBuddha is quiet (compared to my Medela). This made it a better pump option for pumping at night.
  •  I like how sleek and stream-lined it is. You can toss it into any purse or bag and barely notice it’s in there.
  • It’s also lightweight enough that it can be easily worn without any annoyance.
  • It helped me achieve let-downs quickly.
  • Power pumping with the BabyBuddha was fantastic.

My Dislikes:

  • At first, I had a hard time getting used to the suction strength because it is VERY aggressive. However, once my body adapted, it was great! And, like I said earlier, it helped me achieve let-downs very quickly.
  • It took me some time to figure out to hack the BabyBuddha with other pumping kits, such as Freemie Cups. They have since created a comprehensive components hack resource page that is very helpful!
