What’s the Secret to this Blueberry Lactation Smoothie?

First, let me explain what a galactagogue is – it is defined as a certain food, herb or medication that has breast milk boosting properties.

Now, check out the galactagogues I used to make this blueberry lactation smoothie a milk supply exploding bomb!

  • Coconut Milk
  • Lactation Protein Powder
  • Bone Broth
  • Flax Oil

What makes these particular foods a galactagogue and good for breast milk production?

Great question – let me elaborate and teach you something you may not know! After all, knowledge is power and in this case – milk making magical power!

How Does Coconut Milk Increase Breast Milk Supply?

Nuts in general are great for giving breast milk a nourishing kick because they are high in protein, fiber and magnesium.

Snacking on nuts throughout the day as a healthy breastfeeding snack is a great way to promote surplus milk production.

For more recipes using coconut milk, try my Pink Lactation Drinks! Likewise, I am also a huge fan of coconut water to aid in breast milk production.

My go-to way to use coconut water for maximum hydration is to combine it with a Body Armor Sports Drink.

Body Armor for breastfeeding is a little secret lactation trick many breastfeeding moms use on a daily basis.

Lactation Protein Powder

Pre made lactation protein powders are a quick and effortless way for lactating moms to get breast milk building nourishment into their cells.

I like, know and use Milk Dust Protein Lactation Powder. It tastes great and I ALWAYS notice a pretty extreme increase in my milk supply within hours of drinking it.

Bone Broth in a Blueberry Lactation Smoothie?

Yes – you read that right!

I discovered bone broth a few years ago, but I had no clue it would come in handy when I began breastfeeding. It was actually kind of an accident that I realized it was helping my milk supply.

But once I made the connection, I hopped online and asked Google “why is bone broth beneficial for lactating women.”

Here’s what I found out – because bone broth is abundantly rich in minerals, like calcium – it does wonders to help heal a woman with blood building properties that restore, hydrate and balance.

If you want to know which bone broth protein powder I use, here it is linked at Amazon so you can get some for yourself and make this milk boosting smoothie!

Why is Flax such a Good Galactagogue?

I have to admit, flax smells and tastes nasty.

Um, hello – am I eating a plant or a fish?? I never could understand how something that has no relation to salt water could smell so fishy.

The answer is actually quite simple, it’s the correlation of the omega-3 fatty acids that they all have in common. Those omegas are exactly why flax is great for breastfeeding too!

Flax seeds in oil or ground form are great to bake or whip up some lactation treats with, like my popular Boobie Bites Recipe.

Smoothies are some of the easiest and most fun things to make!
